The Quiet Time Companion: A Daily Guide Through the Bible

This study guide is awesome!!
I just love this guide. I use it every day to start my day at work. It really gets me to meditate on God's wonderful word. It is so great, that I am buying it for a friend.

Kudos!
This book revolutionized my own Bible study time. The Quiet Time Companion uses several different approaches to freshen up personal study times. Weekly sessions may study a single passage, a character, or a word. Other sessions will look at the same passage from several different perspective or will spend two or more weeks on an indepth study of a section of scripture.

This multi-themed approach keeps your Bible study from becoming routine. You will not find a three month study of Leviticus. It cuts down on the theological/philosophic mumbo-jumbo giving straight but not dumbed down look at the Word of God.

Another innovative approach the authors used in creating this devotional aid is that the weekly sessions are composed of 5 lessons, giving you 2 days of individual study (the authors do make some suggestions) but this is an excellent opportunity to work in preparing your Sunday School lesson during the weekend personalized study.

The authors are to be commended! Bravo!

The Reluctant Abigail
Published in Paperback by New American Library (September, 1984)
Author: Miranda Cameron
Average review score:

Forwarned, but not Forearmed
I wish to apologize to the people who have read my review on this book.I was thinking of another book and so reviewed it instead. This is also a wonderful book and I enjoyed it very much.

Lady Gabriela Pennington came disguised as a servant to the country manor of her distant cousin Alina as a matter of family duty. She had to find out the truth about rumors that Alina was totally besotted with the handsome, unscrupulous, fortune-hunting Sir Willard Craig. Soon Gabriela was installed as abigail to the hapless heiress, determined to save Alina from the marriage trap triggered to snap shut. Acting as a servant of good sense was one thing. But it was so much harder to stop from becoming the slave of this lord whom it was an obvious folly to love...

A Rake may Reform, But a Lady always Remembers
Remarkably handsome, devastatingly charming, Viscount Peterbloom was rumored to have kept as many as eight mistresses at once. But five years ago he became tired of his dissolute ways and has been leading an exemplary life ever since. Miranda Fraser has come to London to save her family home-only to discover the estate is now owned by the rakish Viscount Petebloom. Five years earlier, Peterbloom stole a kiss from the naive young Miranda. She was outraged, as was only proper.

Can a scoundrel change his wicked ways? Miranda ardently hopes so, because she has come to realize that this nobleman holds not only the deed to her home, but the key to her true heart's desire....

I love this book. Well written and certainly a page turner.

Riptide
Published in Paperback by Writers Club Press (December, 2001)
Author: Cameron A. Lindsey
Average review score:

A dark but compelling view of artificial loyalty.
It's a dark, drunken trip with the frat guys. Lindsey portrays the epitome of what Vonnegut dubs a 'granfaloon' at its sinister worst, and does it with disturbing authenticity. Although not without humor (the scene where the street loony mocks the curbside preacher is laugh-out-loud priceless), most of the novel is as surreal and edgy as "Hearts of Darkness," to which the author pays homage. "Riptide" is an excellent first effort.

Exquisite first novel! A thrilling ride!
What a great book! In RIPTIDE, Lindsey has delivered a masterful first novel full of mystery and suspense, twists and turns, with well-crafted, finely-honed prose. A wonderfully written book that should propel Lindsey to bestseller status. A must read for mystery and suspense novel fans!

Snow Sky
Published in Audio Cassette by Newport Pub (October, 1993)
Author: Cameron Judd
Average review score:

A MUST READ!
I have read a lot of Cameron Judd's books, but this is my favorite. It is well written and it keeps the reader on edge all the way till the very end. I would recommend this book to other readers without hesitation. ~dumpling~

EXCELLENT BOOK!!!
I think the thing I like most about this book is what it is not. It is not about an overly-handsome cowboy who can "not" be outrode, outdrawn, outshot, outsmarted, or outfought. It is about everyday characters that one would find in any town in the old west. It tells their story, and along the way draws the reader into their lives. One feels like one knows each character, whether they are good or evil. Snow Sky centers around Tudor Cochran and his wife's request that he make sure a young boy is safe. What results is mystery, mayham, and murder. When I finished reading the book..all I could think was..Wow. There is so much action going on that there is never a dull moment.

Transitions: Prayers and Declarations for a Changing Life
Published in Paperback by J. P. Tarcher (October, 1999)
Author: Julia Cameron
Average review score:

fire your shrink and read Cameron instead
Although, as an artist and just a person who is still breathing, I could use a dose of hope and inspiration once in a while, I can no longer trust the sincerity, integrity, motives and qualifications of 99.9-percent of authors whose books line the shelves of the self-help, inspiration, or psychology sections. This stems not only from multiple, deep disappointments with this kind of book, but also from enough personal interaction with a couple of extremely high-profile and well-regarded (and rich) writers of this genre who clearly are complete frauds. Moreover, I've had scary experiences in real life with bad shrinks, one of whom was a psycho who lost his license for molesting female patients. And I'm especially skeptical of how-to books on "creativity" and "writing," which are inevitably written by people who are neither, read by people who, if they actually have to be told how, never were and never will be. But in this sea of insincerity, there's Julia Cameron. I don't know anything at all about this author as a person, but all of her books shine with an honesty and compassion that delivers substance. The reader takes away something both useful and inspirational. The prayer books in particular are far from the same old thing. Only someone who lives and believes in what she writes could convey these thoughts to others in such a beautiful, unique way. Note that one does not have to have a particular faith to get a whole lot out of these little books. Reading Cameron is like talking things over with a compassionate, QUALIFIED therapist or who is neither preachy nor Pollyanna.

Wonderful
Julia Cameron's books of prayers, declarations, affirmations (whatever one chooses to call them, depending on one's spiritual point of view) are very good ... but 'Transitions' is the best & I believe that's because of the format & the subject matter. The format differs from the other two books (they are 'Heart Steps,' which is focused on creativity, & 'Blessings,' focused on heartfulness) in that it has an affirmation followed by a simple suggested action (the others only have affirmations). The suggested actions aren't difficult--they require just a little mental effort or resolution. The subject matter was a great choice. It is, as the title implies, change. The book is ideal for anyone facing a major event such as a death, wedding, move, career change. ... All three of these books, even in paperback, are very nicely presented, with sturdier covers & higher quality paper & printing than is typical & this is a good thing because they're the sort of thing you'll want to keep around & savor repeatedly. ... If this is the first Cameron effort you're considering, you're in for a treat: with almost no exceptions (but avoid the over-priced, poorly conceived 'Artist's Way Creativity Kit') Cameron's stuff is outstanding & a great asset to anyone in recovery, expanding or trying to change, especially in creative directions such as writing. You'll get the most out of the affirmations if you also buy, ideally, 'The Artist's Way' & perhaps a Tim Wheater album ... & start Cameron's suggested practices of 'morning pages' & a weekly 'artist date.'

Witchy's Turned Around House
Published in Hardcover by Images Press (October, 1998)
Authors: Marcia Trimble and Chad Cameron
Average review score:

Excellent
I just read "Witchy's Turned Around House" to my four year old
daughter, and she and I were both thrilled. We were both charmed
and enthralled by the gorgeous illustrations, and by the fun
and captivating story of Witchy. For once, there's a witch
character who isn't mean-spirited and evil. Witchy's a good
positive figure for young children, representing not black
magic, but instead friendly hocus-pocus. Finally, young kids
can fall in love with witches and not dread them. Witchy's

character emerges in the mediocrity of wicked-witches-of-the-
west as a sweet, fun little girl full of fun and mischief, with
the promise of victory in winning the annual spinning contest,
around which the story revolves. A great treat for kids ages
3-7.

"Spell"Binding!
As soon as I read this at daycare,my listeners had fallen under
under Witchy's magical spell. The illustrations are magical, and
Marcia Trimble brings her character "Witchy" to life. This is a
really ideal picture book to read to little kids, namely pre-schoolers through third graders. What a fun book!
